Welcome to the 53rd Annual Meeting of JSDB in Kumamoto!
On behalf of the meeting committee, I am happy to announce you that the 53rd JSDB meeting, cosponsored by the Asia Pacific Developmental Biology Network (APDBN) will be held in Kumamoto in 19-22 May 2020.
As you may remember, the 49th meeting was to be held in Kumamoto in May 2016, but we had to cancel it because a series of strong earthquakes hit Kumamoto area only a month before the scheduled dates. Thanks for your endless support and encouragement, our research environment has been recovered from the destruction of the quakes. Also, the city's infrastructure has been mostly restored. Therefore, to organize this 53rd meeting in Kumamoto will be our comeback attempt.
Kumamoto is located in Kyushu, and can be accessed by air (via Kumamoto Airport or Fukuoka Airport) and by Kyushu Shinkansen bullet train (from Shin-Osaka, abut 3 hours). The meeting venue, Kumamoto-Jo Hall is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art convention center. All the events (plenary lectures, symposia, oral and poster presentations, and company's exhibition) can be held on the same floor.
Upon attending the meeting, you will enjoy nice foods, beautiful scenes and historical architectures in the Kumamoto area. In addition, you will view the progress on the reconstruction of Kumamoto Castle, including its famous stone walls (mushagaeshi; see our meeting poster).
The meeting committee members aim to maximize opportunities for all participants to exchange scientific information and ideas. For this purpose, we would like to encourage oral presentation speakers to present their posters for further discussion. To make the 2020 meeting very informative, attractive and exciting, I would like to ask all the society members for active participation in the meeting.

この度、日本発生生物学会第53回年会［アジア太平洋発生生物学会ネットワーク（APDBN）との共催］を2020年5月19日（火）から5月22日（金）の予定で、熊本城ホールを会場として開催する運びとなりました。
当初49回年会（2016年）を熊本で開催する予定でおりましたが、年会の1ヶ月前に起きた熊本地震の影響により、中止せざるを得ませんでした。皆様からの絶え間ないご支援と激励により、熊本の研究環境や社会基盤の多くは復興を果たしました。心より感謝申し上げます。このような背景でございますので、第53回年会は私たち年会準備委員にとっては再挑戦であり、地震から復興しつつある熊本のアクティビティーを皆様にお見せすることのできる絶好の機会であると考えております。
第53回年会では、新たに建設される熊本城ホールを会場に行います。プレナリーレクチャー、口頭・ポスター発表、企業展示などすべてのイベントを同じフロアで行う予定です。また、参加者の情報交換をより深遠なものとするために、口頭発表を行った方もポスター発表できるように十分なスペースを確保しております。是非、熊本大会に参加し、活発な情報交換をして頂ければ幸いです。
